WATER, WINDMILLS DIKES WITH TOURIST GUIDE HOLLAND
God created the world and the Dutch created Holland. This is so true since 60% of all the windmills you see in the fields are used for water purposes. We keep dry feet with them, by pumping away the surplus of water we always have in this low land of us. Another issue we have is the reclaimed land, making polders out of water. We needed extra land in our very small country with a huge population for food production and living space. Several hundred square miles are literally taken from the water. One of these so called polders is Oostelijk Flevoland only 40 years old. This polder houses the brand new city of Almere which has gained more than 300.000 inhabitants in good twenty years time. With Jan a tourist guide in Holland you can hear all about the water use, polders and dike use and visit the Unesco site.
Oosterschelde dam the picture above is one of our most famous works. This surge barrier is built in the middle of the sea arm to protect the province of Zeeland. Oosterschelde and a true standard in Dutch water work history.
Kinderdijk is another standard in water history and a Unesco Heritage Site here you can see the Dutch water board system in his full glory with 19 authentic Dutch windmills pumping away water and two modern systems doing the same now.
You need the service of an experienced Tour Guide like Jan to understand the full dimensions of the Dutch watersystems in use. Please call us at 0031 651765546 or contact us at contact information mail
